A Little More About Me

I'm Meltem Ilkan—most people call me Mel—the proud founder of MamaCalma, an experienced Mindfulness and Hypnobirthing Teacher here to help you find your best self through mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

My path to mindfulness and hypnobirthing came from my desire to heal the stress and anxiety deep within me. I knew I had to share this feeling, and today, I could not feel happier or more fulfilled with my professional journey.

 

When I'm not immersed in the empowering world of hypnobirthing, I wear several other hats that bring me joy and purpose.

🎓 Academic Life: As a Fulbright scholar, I earned my Master’s in the USA and have now completed my PhD in the UK. My academic path, rooted in Cyprus and enriched by global experience, deeply informs the mindful approach I bring to my work. I’m proud to hold the title of Dr., a milestone that reflects both personal growth and professional dedication.

💗 Family Life: I live in Cambridge, UK, with my family—my two beautiful hypnobirthing babies, my wonderful husband, and our fur baby who is very much part of the crew. Both births remain some of my proudest memories—not because they went exactly according to the infamous “birth plan” (which I prefer to call preferences), but because I felt empowered with knowledge and trusted my body fully. Life is full, sometimes chaotic, but filled with joy.

🌐 Professional Life: I serve as the Learning Development Manager at Ripe Learning in London, leading a skilled team of teachers. I’m deeply committed to wellbeing at work, both for myself and for all my team members.

🧘🏽‍♀️ Wellness Goals: Yoga is my sanctuary for fitness. When I’m not teaching or parenting, I love cooking and baking, always exploring ways to nourish body and soul. I’ve also recently taken up running—still very much a beginner, but enjoying the journey.

👩🏽‍💻 Future Ambitions: Expanding MamaCalma’s reach is a key focus for me. I’m passionate about creating more mindful spaces, empowering birth experiences, and supporting others in finding inner calm and strength — all while striving for that often-challenging work-life balance.

🌍 Locations for Face-to-Face Classes: Depending on the scheduled class, sessions are held in Cambridge, North and East London, or North Cyprus (typically Nicosia or Kyrenia). Alternatively, you’re very welcome to join my online sessions from the comfort of your home.
